Your First Time Should Be Memorable. Pace Yourself.

We’re sure you’ve heard it. Those notorious stories of someone’s first experience dealing with
edibles. They start with a bite, but end with the total consumption of the edible in question.
That’s why for many, those first experiences aren’t so great. But what if they could be?
One of the most important things to remember regarding edible consumption is knowing how
to be patient. Many people trying them for the first time tend to take a bite and get so
excited—or impatient—that they take another before giving the edibles time to kick in.
Suddenly, they’re hit with a wave of pressure around the cranium and the feeling of their
bodies getting heavier as their mouths experience that cotton mouth feeling reminiscent of
when peanut butter is eaten without jelly. And as hours pass and they don’t move, their minds
never sit still.
That’s why it’s important to remember one of the sacred rules: PACE YOURSELF.
Taking your time and being patient better allows you to gauge how you feel and gives you a
better idea of your tolerance for next time. However, if you opt to eat a little, wait only a couple
of minutes, then decide to eat a lot more, you may be asking for trouble.
For most people, it’s best to start with no more than 5mgs the first time and wait a couple of
hours. Generally, it takes about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to kick in. However, that is not written
in stone. Some people with faster metabolisms may experience the effects sooner, while those
with slower metabolisms may experience the effects later. It doesn’t hurt to wait a couple of
hours, because once you’re high, you ARE high. Since this is your first time, the chances of you
panicking or becoming worried incrementally increases with the level of high you are
experiencing. Additionally, once the effects start, they can last around 5 to 6 hours—or
drastically longer—with the peak lasting for 1 to 3 hours.
So, what do you do when you find yourself uncomfortable because you consumed more than
what you should’ve and are higher than you would prefer? Well first, it’s important to stay calm
and not panic—that only makes it worse. Instead, find a place that makes you comfortable.
Turn on some music. Play some video games. Watch something on Netflix. Call a friend and talk
to them until you feel at ease. Take long, slow, deep breaths—there are plenty apps on your
phone that can help with this. Get some fresh air, too. And stay hydrated.
If you remember these basics, you may have the best first experience with edibles imaginable.
Sitting around a fire with a big smile on your face, appreciating full relaxation with a few friends
while socially distancing.
